What Are These Two Tones?

jeudi 16 avril 2015

I’ve been tuning practically all my drums with my Tune-Bot since I got it a couple of years ago. I couldn’t help but notice that the Tune-Bot tunes your drums to any number of Hertz (Hz.) These numbers also, apparently add up to certain music notes. (Ex: 311Hz = D#4/Eb4) This didn’t really mean much to me until about a week ago when I remembered this video that a lot of people on this site wanted me to watch of a guy singing notes and tuning a snare drum to that note. He used this device in the video that, to me, sounded like a frequency generator. So I ended up downloading a frequency generator app on my phone and tried tuning with both the Tune-Bot and this app. What I ended up discovering was really weird. I was tuning my 15” Stainless Steel LP Tito Puente Timbale. It had already been tuned to around 426Hz (close to Ab4) ON THE TUNE-BOT. But what I heard, with the help of the frequency generator app, sounded like 757Hz (close to F#5/Gb5.) Why am I hearing this tone that is so much higher than what the Tune-Bot picks up, and what is this other tone?
