Mapex Wraith Snare

dimanche 29 mars 2015

This might be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. Here's a video demo of the Mapex Wraith snare (1.2 mm brass, 9 vent holes, branded as "bone dry, articulate, loud"):

A useable snare drum for jazz/combo settings? I like the drier, crisp properties of the snare, but my only experience with a heavily vented snare (a Pork Pie 12+ vented maple shell) was ear-splitting.

Bill Stewart frequently uses a Ludwig 6.5x14 hammered bronze snare, and those bad boys can be quite loud and ringy. So, given that, I wonder if the Wraith would be flexible enough to handle combo work alongside more general rock or funk stuff.
