Yamaha Recording Customs - Help!!

So, my local music store has a 1980's Yamaha Recording Custom kit, for $599!!! It's all 9000 serial numbers, piano black. 14x22 kick, and a 10, 12, 14 and 15 (yes) set of toms. I think the chrome will clean up nicely, not sure how to rehab the piano black paint. And not sure about the 24" kick. So, any thoughts on the 24" kick and cleaning up the black paint is greatly appreciated. They are marked as 9000 series on the tags, but the Serials are all 9000 something with RC, RT or RF in the number. I might not sleep tonight over this one. Oh, and are black drums not cool anymore? :)
