Channeling Kris Myers in one of my band's originals

I've been listening to a ridiculous amount of Umphrey's McGee lately (The London Session is so good) and I've been thinking of ways to incorporate more toms into my usual playing - I love the way Kris Myers uses the various pieces of his kit and I've been doing my best to take some of his ideas and use my toms for more than just fills or as a stand-in ride cymbal.

So here's the video: http://ift.tt/1GJwcfH

The song is called Burn; our lead guitarist has had the idea floating around for a few years and we've been fleshing it out in various ways for the last year and a half. It's probably my favorite tune to play because we can take that middle section in a range of directions - sometimes it's a guitar solo, sometimes it's a bass solo, and sometimes we just play around with the groove like in this version here. Having three classically- and jazz-educated musicians in the band (lead guitarist, bassist, and myself) allows us all to be more free with what we do and it's a lot of fun.

I recorded, mixed, and edited the video and I'm really happy with the way my drums sound. I'm using a purple 13" DW Craviotto snare in this video and I'm in love with the snare tone.

Also, if anyone is interested, the bass tone is simply Dan's 70s P Bass through an A Designs REDDI. The REDDI is so ridiculously fat-sounding.
