There was a recent piece in the 'Lefsetz Letter' by Bob Ezrin on the music industry. In replies by others today, this one by Elliot Mazer stuck out:
"Wall Street helped create the flattening of music. Numbers became the primary decision controller. Nashville wins since songs and Performance are still the creative driver. But there it sounds like McDrums create the grooves. Most records use the same samples. That drummer is really busy"
It made me wonder what percentage of drums are sampled in rock music today? half, 80%, most?
I would guess its 100% in pop stuff like Katy Perry etc.
the "McDrums" label is kind of funny...but sad too.
