Trick drums questions

mardi 14 avril 2015

I know there have been threads on Trick drums before, but I would like to approach this thread from a different perspective (hopefully). Sadly I have never had the chance to hear a Trick kit first hand that gave me a truly good representation of their sound (I heard a drummer playing them on an ourdoor festival but the guy running the sound had him burried in mix so I could not really hear the drums well). It was very hard to tell how they compared to wood drums in terms of volume, projection, tembre, and tone.

Being that Trick drums are made from aluminum I wonder how drastic an affect different heads will have on their sound?

My 2 favorite drum makers are Ludwig and Pork Pie. How does Trick drums compare in terms of sound and quality to these drums?

It seems that more companies are starting to get into the idea of using metal in the construction of their toms and bass drums as of late. Maybe that is the wave of the future being that metals are not effected by the weather like wood is and that metal, in general, is more durable then wood.
