After years of using the same heads I decided it was time to find something new. I did a little research and figured the Remo Vintage Emperors would be a good fit, I tried the clears first and tonight I tried out the coated.
KEEP IN MIND THAT I TUNE MY DRUMS LOW!!
Here's a video of me playing the night I put the clears on my kit

I really liked the clears but they took a while for ME to get exactly the sound out of them that I wanted, and still had to use moon gel to get them EXACTLY where I wanted them.
With the coated I didn't need a moon gel and had them tuned up and sounding good within just a few minutes.
The clears are brighter and louder than the coated but to my ears the coated sound like the clears with a moon gel and just a bit quieter, I'll be sticking with the coated Vintage Emperors for the next few years! I tried the Aquarian Performance 2's in between the Vintage Emperors and hated them, I've also tried clear AND coated Pinstripes as well as Evans EC2s.
I work for Guitar Center and get a good discount on gear which is how I've tried out so many heads by the way!
