Hey all - I had some time today to play around with my recording set-up. I just installed some Powerstroke 4 heads on my Ludwig classic maple kit (13/16/24 with 6.5 Supra) and have fallen back in love with low tuned drums.
I put the full front reso head back on the bass drum and placed my AKG D112 bass drum mic about 10 inches in front of it dead center. My AKG C214 large-diaphragm condenser mic went overhead the center of the kit about 20 inches up. I recorded straight into GarageBand, later EQ'd a bit and added some ambience and this 3-minute noodling is the result.
The drums sound fantastic. I swear I could play these drums in the Eagles. It's nice to know I can get this sound with only two mics! Please let me know what you think ;)
