Yamaha RC or Tama starclassic

So I have a Starclasssic Maple in a red silk wrap (now known as red oyster on the new b/b kits), sizes 10,12,14,22, and I think at the time they were making this kit (I might be wrong), the starclassic shells were a little thicker for this limited edition kit. My friend posted he is selling his Yamaha Recording custom 8pc (8,10,12,13,14,15,16,24) in white (but I might get Em painted over cause I don't really like white)for 1700$ and I think with some cash he might make a trade. These aren't new RC's,there the YD9000s with the single lugs (which I think look better than the long lug thing). I know what your thinking, "this kid is looking at quantity over quality". Well maybe, but I'm not entirely impressed with the starclassics. They actually don't tune up as well as the mapex m birch I have and I think I like the sound of birch better actually than the Maples. Do you think it would be a good trade with some cash?
