... for an 8x7 maple tom that I really don't use all that often. I've tried Evans G1 over G1, Evans G2 over G1 but I can't get a decent sound from it. I know a two-ply head is probably the wrong choice for such a small diameter drum, but it's where I am right now.
Honestly, the crappy cheapo head the drum came with sounded the best and was the easiest to tune. Weird, huh?
My other toms all have Evans Clear EC2 SST's for the batter heads and Aquarian Classic Clear's for the reso heads and they sound great whether tuned high, medium, or low. I tend to run about medium to medium-high.
But my 8x7 (small, I know) never sounds quite right, and it's a real bear to get tuned well in the first place.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mitch
