What's a person to do? Well, give them a go as hi-hats, that's what I say!!! These were likely "Crash" cymbals, as in marching band with handles on them. Now they are one big a$$ set of hi-hats! The sound is huge! Also, no fans required as they move a lot of air in your face on the down swing, lol.
Franken-hi-hats!
I have a pair of 13" Ziljian K's as a remote hi-hat, so I keep the normal, and try the abnormal, lol. I was running a 14" Ziljian Zilco set there. Will always keep those too. I can't wait to record the sound of the huge hi-hats. I do of course, know I am not the first person to try 18" hi-hats, I'm sure people have went larger even.
I did it late last night, so not a lot of play time yet. Big sound though! Huge! What a blast to try.
