Hi all, I'm new here.
I am currently working on the design for my senior Manual Arts Project, which is Building a snare (including 14 x 8 Stave shell, wood hoops, brass lugs. In order for my 30mm diameter brass lugs to fit the side of the shell, I thought I would leave two strips at the top and bottom unturned - so that they leave flat parts to attach the lugs to (as it is stave construction). My lug design is solid brass and would be too difficult to shape a curve into each lug so that they fit the curve of the shell. So I was wondering if you think doing this would have a great effect on the sound. my shell will be 6mm in the body, and i was going to make reinforcement hoops 16mm thick for strength and overtone control, however leaving the strips on the outside might already do this. Would doing both inhibit the drums' body and resonance?
Any Thoughts?
Let me know what you think.
