I put a Super II coated on a Gretsch New Classic and thought I'd share feedback. It tuned up very easy. I tensioned it up just above finger tight and gave a firm push by hand to stretch it, then I started tuning it up. It didn't pop or crack as I tuned it up. I found it really responsive to tuning with a nice mellow note that was more open sounding than other, heavier two ply heads I've tried.
For low to moderate volume playing it sounds great. Miked live or in a studio these would sound fantastic for a not so heavy hitter. For situations needing a harder hit, I don't think they'd be the best choice. A great tone up until a certain point then the sound becomes kind of papery and distorted. The sound of the head then overshadows the great tone. (It gets pushed beyond its ability to resonate)
This is a great sounding and feeling head, IMO...just not one that I can lay into at anything below a moderate tension. If you're looking for a great recording or miked application, this one is worth considering. The tone is great. For higher volume situations or lower tuning situations I'd look to a thicker head.
