i'm thinking of converting a bass drum to use as a gong drum just to try something different. never played one before (never really seen one other then pictures) so thought since i have this bass drum i'm not using why not?
i know the heads are usually bigger then the shell but i'm not gonna go through all that just to try it out. i got a spare pearl mesh head that will fit the resonate side (just to keep the hoop attached and undamaged). but what kind of heads are usually used on the batter side? i was thinking maybe something like a fiber skin? thicker coated 2 ply maybe? or do they use thinner heads?
