Good kits for under $1000???

lundi 30 mars 2015

Hey everybody, I've been looking to upgrade to a new kit and have a budget of about $1000. So far, I've been able to narrow it down to two different kits that I think are a pretty good deal for what I am looking for, but need some help deciding:

1.) PDP Concept Mapple - $879

Bass drum: 22 x 18" w/mount

Rack toms: 10 x 8 and 12 x 9"

Floor toms: 14 x 14" and 16 x 14"

Snare drum: 14 x 5-1/2"

7-ply maple tom shells

10-ply maple snare shell

STM mounting system

True-Pitch tuning rods

Retro-inspired dual-turret tube lugs

DW MAG throw-off

Die-cast bass claw hooks

2.) Gretsch Catalina Club Rock - $899

24 x 14" bass drum

12 x 8" rack tom (also found a shop that still had an older model with a 13x8 rack to instead)

16 x 16" floor tom (would hope to eventually add on a second one in the future, maybe 18 in)

14 x 6 1/2" snare drum

7-Ply mahogany/basswood shells

Mini GTS suspension system allows rack tom to fully resonate

30-degree bearing edges for classic, warm tone

24" diameter, pre-muffled bass drum with wood hoops and matching inlays, lacquer finish and telescoping spurs for support

Tom clamp/arm (12.7mm) is included

Gretsch Catalina Club badge

From what I've been able to find out, both these kits are pretty similar in quality. However, some have told me to go with the PDP while others have told me to go with the Gretsch. I'm sort of leaning towards the PDP (more drums for the $$$) but really just want some more opinions before deciding. Or if anyone has any other kits within a similar price range that they think are better I'd be open to checking those out too. I primarily play rock and roll, so preferably something big and loud, but anything is an option. Thanks a ton in advance and let me know!
