I've always exclusively been a Coated Ambassador or Coated CS Dot on all my snare heads, no muffling. I like my snares with as much tone as possible, open sounding, and loud.
But I want to experiment a little bit with a 'sharper' tone for my brass snare. What would be the next step after a CS Dot in terms of dryness? I'm a Remo guy exclusively, btw. I've seen Ambassador X heads and X14 heads as well, those seem interesting but I don't want to leap too far and choke the drums up too much.
How's a coated emperor for snare heads? Is 2 ply too much or should I stick to single ply?
