I'm working on some original material at the minute with a band I'm in. I'm just wondering, do you guys spend a lot of time with material not only coming up with grooves but also coming up with nice fills that compliment the song?
In the past I've always just sort of let fills (and grooves) evolve but never been completely happy with them, and sometimes feel I'm falling back on the easy stuff and often a song isn't quite the same twice, so trying to approach it different this time.
Am I going about this the right way? Not that there are any rules but just trying to improve ..
