Ahead black on brass 14x6

mardi 31 mars 2015

Someone wanted a demo before they bought it (which they did) so I made a quick and dirty tuning video with my Q3HD. It's the first time I've used the Q3HD since I got it. I couldn't believe how quick the whole process was, awesome little camera.

This was made 1st thing in the morning so this is my uncensored, unedited playing.

I'm an idiot for selling it really but I have 2 brass 14's.

Sonor Versagig

Anyone have any experience with this kit? Looks like it may be exclusive to Canada, and maybe some parts of Europe. Seems to be part of the Special Edition Series, with the Martini, Safari, etc., except this is maple, not poplar.

http://ift.tt/1xVn3R4

20x14 bass, 14x12 floor, 12x7 rack, 14x5 snare

I'm new to drumming and am enjoying learning jazz techniques, even though I do not play jazz, so this kit seems like it might be more practical long term with the larger bass.

Mostly wondering how the tambre would compare to the Safaris which have gotten so much love, since these are (possibly cheap) maple.

Sonor Versagig

Ok, you were right - it is a bit tricky :)

I thought I'd give the snare competition track a quick try out. I only got half way though because I didn't have much time, I'm essentially winging it, but I agree with other observations, it's not as straight forward as I thought. The chorus backbeat seems to run counter to the full song when listening only to the backing track.

Anyhow, here's my hurried first attempt, so I'm on the journey with you :) I'm also appreciating why the pro's are running scared of this competition ;) ;) ;)

Sorry for the slight distortion (Youtube issue), I'll upload a better version overnight.

Benny Greb Snare help!

I happened to find what looks like a crack while changing heads the other day! Argggh! Although, on closer inspection, it might just be the outer veneer's seam. It doesn't look like it goes thru to the inside of the shell, but was still a lil worried. Any other BG snare owners, does this look familiar? Does your shell have a similar seam? Mahalo and thank you in advance!

I now have to wait for my results to come through! (I'll update the thread when they do arrive).

I remember getting a distinction for grade 1 and a merit for grade 2 because I'm a lazy slob and never practice :(

Remo Powerstroke 4

Hey all - I used to swear I wouldn't use anything thicker than an Emperor head, but now that I'm playing more for my microphones, I thought I'd experiment with new heads. I put an old Pinstripe on one of those old floor toms and really dug the low end (I've never used them on a kit before) but then I decided that "more is more" and I went down to my local shop and picked up a bunch of Remo Powerstroke 4 heads for the kit.

In a word: AWESOME.

It's a double-ply head, with a control ring around the edge (a PS3 is a single-ply head with the ring, this is, well, more).

My classic maples now sound like an entirely different kit. I was always going for that higher-pitched jazz sound because I want them to sound like drums to the guy 20 rows back without being mic'ed up. But in my recording/practice room, I'm not having to worry about that so I'm getting instant fat-ness.

I'm still using reso heads, and the bass drum is especially deep now. They thunder, but they're not scary thunderous. When I have some time I'll post a recording. I'll let them settle in for a few days.

But this old dog is learning a new trick, so I'm proud of myself for trying it and having it work. If you've been thinking about low, and thuddy (but still sounding like drums), try these. You won't be disappointed!

I am trying to create my own drum set on the Roland SP 30 module, and I can't find the list for the "open" HH sounds. I tried layering the same Hi hat and that did not work.

Where/How do I add the open Hi hat sound?

Thank you.

Why is the accordian so hated?

Back in the day,a lot of us jobbers made decent money playing weddings and dances at places like the VFW and small clubs(ask Vince Colaiuta).

Polkas were always a standard at weddings cause you had to know at least a couple to get by.

Part of the combo was an accordion player and believe it or not, before 1960 was the most studied instrument in America.

One of my worst experiences was at UC San Diego(I was studying experimental percussion with Jean Charles Francois) where on May 1st ,because I could play a polka ,was asked by an accordion player to fill in for a paying noon gig ($20 bucks).

I said ,oh what the hell ,an easy $20 bucks.

They students proceeded to throw pennies and oranges at us for the 30 or so minutes we played.

After the gig ,the accordion player who was from Orange County, asked me if I wanted to play some gigs up there and I said no thank you.

So the question is why all the hate?

I mean you can hum a Polka ,but not Varese.

Meinl Classic Custom Dark

Hey all, have any of you experienced the newish Meinl Classic Custom Dark series? I've been researching them and keeping up with any posts or videos, but with the exception of the Benny Greb video that Meinl have on their channel, there are no others.

Their made of b10 bronze with extra hammering and a black finish resulting in a darker trashier sound (which I love) They cost the exact same as the rest of the Custom line but certainly sound better (to me anyways)

The thing is, I could get a set of Sabian Paragons with new stands and a free Pearl snare for $50, which is just a $100 more than a set of these Classic Custom Dark cymbals. I'm not sure how B10 bronze will hold up and if it'll be clangier, brighter, and just all around cheaper sounding then I've been led to believe over the small amounts of videos.

Anybody have any experience? I really really want to love the cymbals especially because of their looks and price but they seem to sound great as well. Just wanted to check in with you all before jumping on it

Using an AV Receiver with my Yamaha DTXpress III Drumset

Hello forum!

First time posting here, so apologies on anything I do incorrectly. I have a Yamaha DTXpress III drumset. I only play as a hobby in a small 1BR apt. I have always just used headphones when I'm playing, but sometimes want other people to hear as well. Would it be safe to plug my drumset into my Yamaha RX-V571BL 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver with 5 Yamaha 100w speakers and a powered subwoofer? I know what audio cables I would need to make this work, but just wondering if the sound range on the drums would damage the receiver or speakers (or the drums).

I know I could just get a drum amp or keyboard amp instead, but just don't feel like dropping $100+ if I could use my receiver instead.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Vistalite Bass Drum tuning

So I have fun futzing with my new 26" amber vista bass and I can't get no satisfaction....too much overtone.....I installed felt mufflers on front and rear heads which improved things somewhat but still not completely happy..

Do I tune the heads up tighter?....I drumdialed them to 78 (batter) and 75 (resonant) which seemed to be factory set...should they be higher?....I have a Remo clear double head on the batter and a single on the front...should I replace the batter with an Aquarian II?

I don't want to install a blanket as it ruins the look but I am out of ideas...

Anyone?

Dw6000 vs Gibraltar flat base?

I'm going to be playing more shows soon and I'm looking at selling off some hardware and getting light weight + flat base stuff. Maybe even a hardware pack.

My first concern is that I have to hang my 10" acrylic Tom from a stand, so I need to know if that's a reasonable thing to ask of these little stands. I like dw hardware so I'm already leaning that way, and if I can save money on a pack and just sell off the pedal I might like the hat and snare stands too.

And after a bit of trawling I can't figure out if the dw booms are "hideaway", by that I mean I don't know if the boom can be slid inside the tube for maximum compactness.

So to anyone that has compared these- Which are lighter? Which fold up smaller? Which are better for whatever reason? Thanks!

Ludwig Black Beauty VS Black Magic

lundi 30 mars 2015

I'm considering one or the other. Only thing I know is the Black Beauty is the original and is seamless. Doesn't come in as many sizes as the Black Magic and costs twice as much. What I'm wondering is....any difference in sound when comparing same size drums? 5x14 or 6 1/2x14 since those sizes are in common to both.Does having a seam really make a tonal difference or pardon the inference, is the difference really anal? Why spend twice the money if they're basically the same drum? Any experience to pass my way is appreciated.

Ludwig Black Beauty VS Black Magic

Have you ever rented out your drum set?

I have never done it.

However, I just agreed to rent out my drum set for one night for $100.

It is at the same club where I play once a week. Some band is coming out from California to play here Saturday night.

And I will set them up and tear them down. And I can stay and watch the show and get free drinks.

It's a good deal for me because my drum set is used every week by several drummers; who ever comes to jam night.

So for this show they will be played by one drummer, and I'm making more money than I do on jam night !! Go figure.

Tour du Stick: Recommendations?

Since I've started drumming, I've pretty much exclusively used GuitarCenter unbranded 5A wood-tipped sticks. When I began playing a year ago I bought two of the 20-packs and am not even halfway through them. I own one pair of VicF 5A's and have tried one pair of 7a's, which made me feel like a giant holding toothpicks. You could say I don't really have a stick preference by virtue of not yet having tried any of the options.

While I really don't have a couple days to go live at guitar center, I'm pretty content to spend $50-$100 on a variety pack and spend the next few months seeing what works and what doesn't. I took a look at GC/MF/SA 's "best sellers" and "highest rated", but soon realized the results were not as revealing as I had anticipated.

If someone were going to buy a dozen pairs of different kinds of sticks and try to be brand/size/tip agnostic while they explore their preferences, what sticks would you recommend they try?

Good kits for under $1000???

Hey everybody, I've been looking to upgrade to a new kit and have a budget of about $1000. So far, I've been able to narrow it down to two different kits that I think are a pretty good deal for what I am looking for, but need some help deciding:

1.) PDP Concept Mapple - $879

Bass drum: 22 x 18" w/mount

Rack toms: 10 x 8 and 12 x 9"

Floor toms: 14 x 14" and 16 x 14"

Snare drum: 14 x 5-1/2"

7-ply maple tom shells

10-ply maple snare shell

STM mounting system

True-Pitch tuning rods

Retro-inspired dual-turret tube lugs

DW MAG throw-off

Die-cast bass claw hooks

2.) Gretsch Catalina Club Rock - $899

24 x 14" bass drum

12 x 8" rack tom (also found a shop that still had an older model with a 13x8 rack to instead)

16 x 16" floor tom (would hope to eventually add on a second one in the future, maybe 18 in)

14 x 6 1/2" snare drum

7-Ply mahogany/basswood shells

Mini GTS suspension system allows rack tom to fully resonate

30-degree bearing edges for classic, warm tone

24" diameter, pre-muffled bass drum with wood hoops and matching inlays, lacquer finish and telescoping spurs for support

Tom clamp/arm (12.7mm) is included

Gretsch Catalina Club badge

From what I've been able to find out, both these kits are pretty similar in quality. However, some have told me to go with the PDP while others have told me to go with the Gretsch. I'm sort of leaning towards the PDP (more drums for the $$$) but really just want some more opinions before deciding. Or if anyone has any other kits within a similar price range that they think are better I'd be open to checking those out too. I primarily play rock and roll, so preferably something big and loud, but anything is an option. Thanks a ton in advance and let me know!

Good kits for under $1000???

Need "realtime human input" for an artist I work with.

Last year an Anglican priest from Vernon, BC Canada contacted me to play two songs on his album. I faithfully took the job and had a religious experience in doing so!

Please vote for Chris Harwood-Jones on the CBC site. I played two tunes on his album and it ranks high among my favorite recordings I've been a part of.

Anyhow, if you can spare a moment to help this awesome person and great guitarist, we'd be appreciative. :D

xtra for drum bags ?

newbie still :) for bday or xmas this year will prob step up from my P.O.S.

starter set. looking at Gretsch Catalina , for xtra $100 I can get bags.

im sure they are the lowest crud bags you could get.

question, im not in a band , wont be moving them around, if and when i go to sell or trade is that $100 well spent? i dont see in the future getting a xtra 100 out of resell value for spending it now, but if i were to start jamming around soon with some people i know, would be nice to protect them a little when moving them around.

Gary Chester on Developing Good Time

SKF NOTE: I found the full transcript from my 1983 interview with Gary Chester, published that year in the April Modern Drummer. The transcript is about twice as long as a typical MD feature interview at that time, suggesting Gary shared words of wisdom beyond those in his interview.

Nick Fatool

Scott K Fish: How did you develop good time?

Gary Chester: I studied time. Time is the whole essence of playing. Davey Tough, Nick Fatool, and another cat who just died in a fire, Morey Feld. These guys are not soloists or nothing, but their time is so gorgeous. I love time.

SKF: Did you use to talk to Davey Tough about time?

GC: We use to sit and play brushes all night. Him and I.

Dave Tough

SKF: With a metronome?

GC: No. Just between ourselves on a cardboard box. What grooves we use to get! That's the trouble with the younger generations. They don't know time as well as they should.

SKF: Until you started session work you never messed with a metronome?

Morey Feld

GC: No. I never had to play with a metronome because God gave me something inside me. I have a born-in quarter note. So I don't have to worry about that. But, when I went into records there was no click track playing. It was just the pulse of the room.*

I don't think you can show me a record that starts and ends in the same tempo, which is acceptable.

I Need To Identify This Snare

Hello again:

Here is a snare that was part of log-jam of used drums I recently bought cheaply.

10 Lugs

14 x 5 inch

Chrome over Steel

Made In Taiwan - has the small gold Taiwan sticker still on

Hoops Made in Taiwan

No Trademarks Visible inside

Old Sticker that has been peeled away but shown in photo.

Sorry, I cannot get the 2nd photo to edit down in size - my apologies!

I am assuming that this might be a MarkII - 10 Lug snare ? I have no idea.

MKII, ProMark, ???? again, I have no idea. Not A Clue.

The crazy thing about this 10 lug Taiwanese dirty, messy thing, is that I cannot get my 2 Acrolites to sound as good as this this thing at the moment. Lol

I has such a nice meaty crack, but not the least bit overly offensive. The resonant head is an old Pacfic Clear with Duct-Tape all over it, probably to stop it from ringing, and the batter is an old Remo Pinstripe, but Damn, this disgusting looking thing has some ambition.

If anybody can tell me what Brand of Snare this is, please let me know.

I thank you in advance …….

Tim

I Need To Identify This Snare

18" Tom Conversion.

I need some suggestions.

I have an 18" floor tom I want to convert into a bass.

I aim to drill no holes, and only add and remove hardware.

Since it's an 18" it seems unnecessary to add a riser.

Atlas Spurs for stabilization and lifting the tom just a bit off the floor.

A wood hoop for at least the batter side, so I can clamp the pedal and generally make it look like a bass drum.

There are more issues involved and was hoping people could give me a rundown of those and various solutions.

18" Tom Conversion.

15" x 8" snare - now sorted - video - 4 tunings.

All that was needed was a few minutes lowering the redo head tension. I naturally gravitate to cranking the reso on all snares, even for very low tunings. I find it excites the shell more efficiently, but that didn't sit well with this 15" snare. The reso head is now tensioned to a medium setting, & that's eradicated the discordant high overtones. A controlled sound head of some description may have achieved a similar result, but I'm a believer that if a snare doesn't sound good with G1 coated over Hazy 300, then the issue is the snare - even on a big ass 15" beast like this.

Anyhow, please cast your critique, but use good headphones, & select HD for better audio :)

FYI : Cheap CAMCO kit

Wish I had the money:

Dennis

FYI : Cheap CAMCO kit

I took a hearing test...

This is just a FYI for anyone or if you want to comment, compare notes/hearing. Although I'll be talking about myself, I was told that my case will be similar to other muso's so you might like to read.

So anyway, I expected hearing loss but the result was good... I have normal hearing. The hearing specialist charted out my test results and I was above the "normal" threshold, although I do have a dip in my ability to hear high frequencies.

Why did I think my hearing was bad? Well I'm a bit of a hypochondriac I guess but when I go to clubs I have really hard time hearing people speak and being heard, and in restaurants with bad acoustics, sometimes it gets to me and I want to get out of there. Same with watching live music, sometimes it feels like the loud volume is doing damage. The specialist said this just means I have good hearing and sensitive hearing, and sensitive ears are not a sign of hearing loss. I guess not being able to understand people is more of a social thing, and a comprehension thing.

I first started using proper ear protection (musicians earplugs and over ear headphones) in 2011, and using those made me realize how useless and potentially damaging it was for me to use regular earphones and cranking the music while I drummed along.

My hearing is very slightly better in the right ear. I don't know but my guess is it might have to do with my hi-hats abusing my left ear. The specialist noted that I have a dip in my hearing at 4000 (hertz?), and this is typical of musicians, there was a casual term for it, can't remember what it was.

She said because drums are generally low frequencies that whatever hearing loss I have suffered was probably because of the other loud noise in the music venues I was playing at, but the high cymbals of frequencies prob didn't cross her mind.

I actually went there to get new moulds made but I asked her if I should lose weight first (I've put on a bit of weight recently) and she said yes. It does change the shape of your ear canal and I remembered being told about this last time. The ears can change over time anyhow so I will work on not being a fat ass and then I'll go back and get new plugs made.

I took a hearing test...

Small Mixer

I am currently recording my band with a Zoom R16 and micing my drums using four mics. Since we can only record eight tracks simultaneously, and I am using four of those, I am looking for a solution to reduce my four mics to two, via a small mixer of some sort.

Any suggestions?

Train beat using paradiddles?

Hi all,

just wondering if you use "inverted" paradiddles when playing the trainbeat with the accents landing on the 2&4? Seems to me that it is grooving more when played this way, although I sometimes loose myself after a fill, but that's because I'm not used to it yet.

Mapex Wraith Snare

dimanche 29 mars 2015

This might be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. Here's a video demo of the Mapex Wraith snare (1.2 mm brass, 9 vent holes, branded as "bone dry, articulate, loud"):

http://ift.tt/1EouXUY

A useable snare drum for jazz/combo settings? I like the drier, crisp properties of the snare, but my only experience with a heavily vented snare (a Pork Pie 12+ vented maple shell) was ear-splitting.

Bill Stewart frequently uses a Ludwig 6.5x14 hammered bronze snare, and those bad boys can be quite loud and ringy. So, given that, I wonder if the Wraith would be flexible enough to handle combo work alongside more general rock or funk stuff.

Roland TD12 or TD20 what do i need to know???

Hi all! Ok I'm looking at getting a used Roland TD12 kit and after looking on some well known auction sites they seem to be around the £1300 mark. TD20's seem to be round the £1900 mark used but to be honest i can't really afford that or maybe at a push but are they really any better than the TD12?

The hardware seems to be the same and obviously the modules are different... What do i need to know and what should i do if my budget allows?

Cheers guys!!

Low tuning inspiration - Carter Mclean

Member KamaK turned me on to this guy. Check out this great playing and great low tuning on this recording. Combined with the song, I swear I could just float on this drum sound.

I asked Carter what he was using for heads and he said he's got Remo PS4's on the tom batters with diplomats on the bottoms. His snare has a super muffler of some sort. This is probably the extreme other end of the spectrum when we're listening to drum covers, but I thought I'd share this with everybody.

I'm installing new heads on my classic maples today - I'm going for this sound first. I've the done the "high and tight" thing, time to spend some time in the other side of the pool ;)

Enjoy!

Low tuning inspiration - Carter Mclean

I can never get my ears around cymbals out of context.

I find it incredibly hard to listen to cymbals in a store when not in the context of drums and know if its the sound I'm looking for. I never understood how people can walk through a wall of display cymbals, hit them solo (without accompanying drums or other instruments) and know if they're the right ones. Sometimes I think players already know what cymbal they want and do some quick sticking to either impress themselves or the store staff.

Sure I can write off certain cymbals or lines of cymbals with a quick test because they're so far away from what I'm looking for. I can tell if I like or dislike the sound I hear, but when I get to cymbals that are in the ballpark of what I'm looking for, its damn near impossible for me to decide if they're going to work well within the context of my drums and my playing.

Drums are hard enough for me...cymbals take it to another level. I just can't get my ears around cymbals without context.

Anyone else? Any pointers?

I can never get my ears around cymbals out of context.

In my first blog post I write of how important to my eventual music writing was hearing my Uncle Bob's recording of Gene Krupa's "China Boy," and also, discovering Uncle Bob's mismatched four-piece drumset and loving its "sound" - especially the small tom-tom.

As important to my music writing was the varied music heard at home, friends' homes, on radio/t.v., in school. I asked Mel Lewis how he learned to play drums to different styles of music. He said, "Ears." Listening! Mel was familiar with many types of music. By the time I started drumming, then writing about drumming, I too was familiar with many types of music.

Rock was in its infancy when I was a kid, so I grew up hearing the popular music of my parents’ World War II generation, plus the emerging rock music of my generation, mostly on AM radio. My mother loved Al Jolson. She also played the upright piano at home and I loved hearing her play, “Theme from the High and the Mighty,” by Dimitri Tiomkin. *

Other songs/melodies I liked growing up were, Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer,” from the movie “Mighty Joe Young,” Nat King Cole’s “Ramblin’ Rose" (1962). Mitch Miller had a hit t.v. show of his men’s chorus singing “an alternative to rock ’n’ roll.” In his New York Times obituary it said, “Mr. Miller came up with the idea for his singalong albums in 1958, drawing on a repertory that ordinary people had sung in churches and parlors for decades.”

My 7th grade music teacher, Mr. Robinson, often taught our class to sing those same songs, often by singing along with Mitch. (Mr. Miller also played oboe on and produced some of Charlie Parker’s string albums.)

My classmate, Kevin Darby, was the first to introduce me to rock ’n’ roll. Kevin tried explaining it in words. I don’t remember what he said, but he finished by playing me his brother’s 45-rpm “Party Doll,” by Buddy Knox (1957).

The “Party Doll” drummer is David Alldred. Of Alldred and the “Party Doll” recording session, Buddy Knox said, “We didn’t have a drummer, but a boy by the name of David Alldred, who joined the band later, was a session player for Norman Petty, so we used him. I can remember looking at him and all he had was two drumsticks and a box with cotton pushed up in it. I still think that makes a heck of a drum sound.”

Alldred was ahead of his time. Today it’s fashionable to have very expensive drumsets that sound like boxes full of cotton.

Gene Krupa, great American songwriters, early rock ’n’ rollers. These were examples of the sounds of my earliest musical life.

To be continued….

Chimp Spanner - Harvey Wallbanger Drum Lesson Video

Hi Everyone,

I recently covered Chimp Spanner's "Harvey Wallbanger" on YouTube, so I created an accompanying lesson video. I hope if you enjoy this band or the song that it will help you learn how to play it!

I've finally figured out how to add notation and animation to my lesson videos, too. So, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

TAMA black plastic washers

So, a while ago while at Sam Ash, I discovered a package of Tama black plastic washers. There were 20 in the package for $4. I thought, "I wonder of these will help my drums tune a little easier?" Guess what...? These things are freakin' amazing!! The plastic washer in between the metal washer and the rim make the lug turn like butter. So I went back and bought 2 more packages and put them on my other 2 snares. What an amazing cheap investment!

Gretsch T Rod

Hi guys,

Does anyone know where I can buy gretsch T-rods for my USA kit? I ordered the kit last year and forgot to get the T-rods so I just have the standard rods but I like the way the T rods look. I'd kinda like it to get shipped to my house...can I get these online anywhere? Im from Canada as well.

Which Ride Should I Get?

I am currently trying to decide whether I should get a Zildjian 21" A Mega Bell ride or a Meinl 22" Soundcaster Custom Mega Bell ride. I have listened to many reviews and sound demos of them on YouTube, and I cannot decide which to get. The nearest music shop where I can try them out myself is nearly 100 miles away, and I don't know anybody who owns them, so that's not an option. I play mainly hard rock, metal (mainly) and metalcore. I am not biased towards either one.

Which Ride Should I Get?

Hating your playing, sometimes or always.

Lately I have been having problems with just not liking my playing from time to time. Mostly from band-practice recordings and stuff. The things I play aren't "wrong" or sloppy/out of time and so on, It's just that I can't stand listening to it, but I don't really know why.

Anyone got any familiar experiences and tips on how to like your own playing more?

What if you unwittingly stole someones gig?

I think this happened today... I got a text from an unknown number asking if I can cover a gig at xxx bar, I happily took the gig. I pretty much nailed it, showed up on time, was polite, helpful etc etc.

I think the band leader indicated I might be either taking the gig on or getting a whole bunch of work... it was a sweet gig but I feel pretty crap... I mentioned to the band leader that I wouldn't want to take the gig from the guy and all he said was "don't worry about him". I don't even know him but he plays with 2 people that I know, I believe one of them recommended me. I can't imagine how he'd feel if he found out he'd shot himself in the foot.

I've not seen this come up on dw before... what say you?

8 8 16 Exercise - One Hand Development - The Ex. Pad Sessions

Converting or modifiying a 3 legged hi hat stand

samedi 28 mars 2015

I have successfully converted a Three legged Hi-Hat stand to a two legged

Hi-Hat Stand. Well I figured out that if you take out one of the legs of the Hi-Hat stand

then the Hi-Hat stand will fall towards you.So to overcome this problem I have come up with a solution

free pic[/IMG]

Firstly take one of the legs out (I would suggest you to not cut the leg, Because you may need it back .

Try and drill the rivet out).

secondly , we will be needing an iron plate ( Becase it is very strong ) which should be 4-6 mm thick(circular obviously)

and the diameter of the plate should be around 1 to 2 feet ( in my case it is 17 inches ).

NOTE: The diameter of the plate should be bigger that the foot board pedal.

photo uploading websites[/IMG]

Thirdly , you should iron weld the foot board connector , that is the black support in my case (it can be

any color in your stand ) . If your connector is single rod, then weld two pieces of " L-Shaped " metal strip

on either side to support the stand.

Fourthly , Placement of the foot board connector for welding should be above the center point near to the edge

( 3 inches form the edge in my case ) of the plate ( as this allows the stand to be in place with the weight of the Hi-Hat

cymbals and the stand itself )

image hosting without account[/IMG]

Note : you cannot weld the foot board connector in the center of the plate ( if you really want to the weld it to

the center , Then you need a plate with a bigger in diameter atleast 4 feet i.e .. 48inches which I would not recommend ,

however you may try and let us know if it works)

Finally, you should paint both the plate and the foodboard connector elegantly.

So basically this board supports the complete stand and acts as a third leg, which doesn't allow the

stand to fall towards or away from you.

free pic[/IMG]

image hosting above 5 mb[/IMG]

Pros : 1) Been using if for over 5 months now without a single problem or hassles.

2 )Doesn't shake ( if done in the right way, use some aptitude ;-) ... )

3)Don't have to spend a lot on a new stand , the only thing you will need additionally is a plate which

costs less than $3- $5 ( If your in India then Rs 100 - 200 max ) and some strips of iron less than $1

( To support the foot board connector ) and welding shop may charge you less than $3- $5 for welding the plate to the foot connector.

4)If the plate is big enough like mine , then you can place both footboards ( i,e Hi- Hat and one of the

double bass pedal on the same plate which will eventually give more support to the Hi-Hat)

5) If you screw this whole welding part then you can obviously return to you original stand by

fixing one of the leg back.

Cons: 1) Plate takes more space compared to any stand ( But since thickness is 4mm it wouldn't matter much )

2) If you don't paint the plate and the foot board connector it looks ugly with all the welding marks. YUK

So I would recommend you guys to try it . It really works (atleast for me it did). And you can save some money by not buying

a two legged stand, instead invest it on something else.

Happy Drumming.

6 seconds that affected 1500 songs

Amen, Brother was a little-known B-side released in 1969. Barely noticed at the time, its drum solo has been hugely influential, appearing in different forms in more than 1,500 other songs - but the band behind it never made any money from it.

"It felt like plagiarism and I felt ripped off and raped," says Richard L Spencer, lead singer of The Winstons - the band that recorded the original track.

"I come from an era where you didn't steal people's ideas."

Over the past three decades bands on both sides of the Atlantic have used the drum solo from Amen, Brother for inspiration.

a question for the followers of Gordy knudtson

I wonder if anybody here is familiar with G knudtson teachings of the open close technique ,which in the video I'm attaching (11:57) he divides into 1 open/close, 2 open/bounce/close, 3 open/bounce/bounce/close ...now,when in continuous mode ,all of them seem to amount to a single stroke. Is there any particular grouping of notes that should be played using any of the three kinds of stroke in particular or do we just use them randomly to create a fast single stroke?cheers

15" K/Z Hi-Hats

I recently acquired a pair of 13" K/Z hi-hats. I love the bright, articulate response, but the wash is a bit short, so I've thought of assembling a pair of 15s, which has of recent become my favorite size (I have a pair of old 15in NBs which feel awesome).

Has anyone here tried the experiment? Comments? Suggestions?

Having seen the "fat hats" I've thought of getting the K top ahead, especially since the "Z" part of the equation is giving me a bit of a hard time to lock down...

using snare of different material than shellpack

I have a yamaha shellpack of all maple, which includes the matching snare. In playing this kit, the snare is sooo loud that it overwhelms the volume of the

toms. So, after hearing sound samples on youtube, I bought a Yamaha birch snare.

The birch snare sounds like heaven, but here is my observation: When I transition

from striking the snare, over to striking the toms for a break, it sounds 'wrong'. The sonic character of hitting the birch, to hitting the maple, seems dissonant and askew. If I go back to using the maple snare, the sonic transition

from snare-maple to toms-maple is consonant and sounds 'correct'.

So my question is: Is there some tuning technique that you guys and gals

use, such to help a snare blend in to a shellpack of a different material ?

Do you maybe tune the snare to an interval of one of the toms ? or . . . ?

Connecting PC to amp or PA for addictive drums

Hello,

I've got a Yamaha dtx522k and for the most part I have it connected to my Win7 laptop so I can use Addictive Drums 2. I've only been able to use headphones but I want to be able to output the sound via speakers in order to jam a bit with some friends. This would be basement/garage jamming - I don't need anything much more powerful than that - if I did then I'd get a real kit.

Connecting the e-drum module to a keyboard amp seems the most common advice I've seen in threads here, and that seems pretty straightforward to me. That said, while I am pretty happy with the feel of playing the Yamaha kit (with the possible exception to me being the responsiveness of the hi-hat and ride) I really don't love the Yamaha drum sounds - particularly the toms - especially since I started using AD2. So I want to hook the laptop up to a speaker system. Am I looking for an amp (again, such as a keyboard amp)? Can I run a cable from the headphone jack on my laptop to an amplifier? Or am I looking for something else?

Thanks!

Methods for feeling or visualizing time?

I was reading something the other day about playing to a metronome and the person said that ultimately you should see the light flash in your head instead of listening to the click. That made me think about playing bass (I've played bass for six years and am just a beginner drummer). When I play bass I often feel the space of rests as a weightlessness, sort of like being on a trampoline. When I drum I listen to the click and count. How do you guys feel or visualize the time when drumming?

Licensing your drum tracks?

Granted, most studio session contracts are work-for-hire agreements, where the performer releases all claims to the recorded material in exchange for pay, but has anyone signed a contract in which you, as the performer, retained some rights to the material, and determine how the material gets used in the future?

Some musicians and I have been hired by a wedding/function band company to record well-known songs, to be used as promotional material on the company's website. We're trying to ensure that the recorded tracks are ONLY used for those purposes, and NOT to create "backing tracks" for bands. So, we'll be needing to retain some rights (ownership) of the recorded material, which probably means some form of a synchronization license.

Any lawyerly drummers on here that can help?

My Kit Build Begins!

Well guys, having taken on some of the advice from this great forum, I've decided to splash a little cash on cymbals even before I bought my kit. Don't know if these cymbals are particularly well regarded but, having been in numerous stores and tried out numerous cymbals of many different brands, these were the ones I fell in love with. To my untrained ears they sounded great.

They are Istanbul Mehmet Sultans and I ended up getting them in set form and they are a 20" ride, 16" crash and 14" hi hats. The set cost me around £245.

I hope they're a decent set and the price I paid was OK?

Alas I didn't get to visit any of the factories - there just wasn't the time. We've done a bit of s tour of Istanbul tho and loved the place.

I just noticed myself today.

Jules, you are one of the stalwarts here and your sober view on things is always refreshing to hear. You are a pillar here in my mind and a big deal should be made since you've entered the 5 figure post count.

I need help with the big deal, I can't do it myself. But I'll try. Uhhhhhhh!

There. I tried. See I told you I need help lol.

Congratulations man. You officially have no life lol. But you're in good company. Just keep telling yourself that. It does help lol.

What computer should I get?

I have decided to quit trying to be a business-man and be a musician, at least for the rest of the year. I left yet another finance job and I plan to enroll in a 6 month music course involving sound recording, production, performance among other things. The study probably won't result in a job but since I am now playing professionally I think this will help round me out as a professional musician. And I'll actually be studying something I like for the first time in my life.

I would like a good laptop that won't break the bank and I was hoping someone here has investigated this already, or knows what the industry standard is (if there is one).

I've had dozens of windows computers and honestly I find that while they're supposed to be there for me - I end up doing all the work fixing them all the time. Should I get a mac?

What software should I use for recording? I will also need to create electronic music so if anyone can recommend a package.

Thank you.

I've committed to buy a second hand one because the price was good and I really liked the sound I heard online when they were first released.

I already have 2 14" brass snares so I figured I'll flog one of those and then I'll have a 14 and 13 brass, which gives me a bit more variety.

Has your cymbal selection shaped you as a player? (x-post)

I think your cymbal selection plays a role in defining what kind of player you are, especially during your primary years. What I mean is this; I think that someone who grabs a (lets use meinl for this example) Byzance brilliant or traditional cymbal pack of all mediums is going to become a different drummer than someone who grabs the Byzance extra dry pack of thins. The cymbals express themselves very differently and that is bound to affect the style you enjoy listening to and the style you enjoy playing in.

Obviously a lot of other factors are there such as background and music history/knowledge, but I'm just saying that your gear helps mold your tastes as well. I personally grew up with Sabian AAX/AAs and have branched out to Zildjian Ks and Meinl Byzance Vintages (which I have each cymbal set on different kits) and there is a huge difference on how I play and practice on each set. I even have different goals.

I also think that if you do happen to have a more versatile cymbal selection, that allows you to touch on more genres and styles. So while the byzance extra dry guy might be less heavy metal and more fusion or latin, the trads and brilliants would allow for the drummer to dig into any of the those genres well enough to not feel out of place with the sound.

Do you guys think your gear affected what you are playing today?

No band

Well, i don't really want to ask anything. I just want to speak my mind about not having band members. I really, really love playing drums and the only 2 people in the world that I jam with are no longer available. They say they can make it for jam session but bail out the last minute leaving me along in the studio with no one to jam with. It just saddens me that there's no one i can play and everytime I pick up my sticks to practice, I say to myself why am I even practicing when there's no one play with? Well yeah that's it, i just want to post my disappointment here. Hahaha. Thanks and have a good day :)

New solo - low tuning and whipped cream rolls ;)

vendredi 27 mars 2015

I've been inspired to get a good snare sound tuned down. So I started experimenting with it a few weeks ago and here's a solo highlighting a down-tuned 6.5 Supraphonic with a coated emperor. The kit is my usual classic maple (also in need of new heads). I put the Zoom Q3HD on a mic stand and had it looking over my left shoulder, so it picked up basically what I was hearing - although I'm sure it didn't catch the fluffy lowness of my 24" bass drum with full front reso head. (I set the Zoom input to "low" when recording so if I decided to play really loud, it wouldn't overdrive the microphones. So this video - like all my videos - will play a little softer than normal. Turn up a little or wear headphones and turn up).

I'm diggin' the low snare tuning. I've always tuned a bit high to cut through stuff, but now I'm thinking sometimes it scares people away. I theorized in another thread that Don Henley's drum sound was probably one of the reasons people didn't mind hearing the Eagles - he wasn't bashing you in the head with his sound. His sound blended well with the band and the song and this made the Eagles the perfect background music in an office environment, or you could actively listen to them as a fan. I'm sure we've all listened to music where it didn't matter what you did, it wasn't going to stay in the background - it will eventually beat its way to the front of your thoughts and dominate everything.

A lower drum tuning allows you to draw people in and keep them there. Sometimes I'd listen to Steve Gadd and his sound was like that too. He'd draw you in (of course with his playing) with that non-cutting sound and keep you there listening.

This video also demonstrates my "whipped cream" rolling. I've been working on it and wanted to show that off. I remember being a kid and just being entranced by a Buddy or Louie buzz roll, I knew if I learned how to do that ok, my touch on the kit would benefit. I'm still working on it, but that's my state-of-the-art for now.

I hope you guys like it, and don't mind spending 4-minutes of your time ;)

Using non musical samples

I play drums in an unsigned thrash metal band.

For the last year we have been recording our first album. We have done everything ourselves and it has been a big task, but it is getting vary close. We are now in the last stages of mastering.

We want to use a sample from a video we found on Youtube in the intro of one of the songs on the album. It's a video of Charles Manson ranting. it looks like it is a news clip and has the CNN logo in it.

My question is if any of you have any experience using non musical audio samples on an album and if you do did you buy the copy rights for them or would something like this be covered under fair use laws?

Here is a link to the youtube video.

Help

I'm in need of an intermediate kit, a single Bass drum pedal, and a new pair of high end hi hats. My original plan was to buy the Pearl Export that came with the hardware pack for $650 and then buy my Meinl Byzance Traditional Thin Hats. My other option was to buy the hats, the bass drum pedal (DW 5000 $200), and then a better kit, between the PDP Concept Maple $729, Yamaha Stage Custom Birch $650, and the Gretsch Catalina Maple $779. Which option would I be better off with? The shell material isn't a big factor because I love the sound of all 3, with the right heads you could pull off a good sound with any of these kits, I'm more concered with which kit has Better quality and is closer to a professional sound. Opinions?.

Told to hit harder

So, we did a show last night and some of our friends did the sound, one of which is a drummer and the other is a guitarist is a cover band. Well after our set the guitarist told me I need to hit harder to make his mixing easier. The drummer who was helping has told me the same. The drummer btw has a history of demolishing cymbals.

I have told them that playing harder ruins my dynamics, I lose any finesse and get sloppy. My drums are still pretty loud and I would say I'm in the medium category on how hard I hit.

Has anyone else ever been told this?

Hey guys.

I've committed drum blasphemy.

After several complaints from my better half, neighbors, etc..................I decided to jump to the dark side.

Due to my schedule, I normally can't practice until after 8 o'clock...............and I was making too much noise for the family..............kids had to sleep, wife would be annoyed, and on and on

I didn't want to go completely electronic, because I hate the way E-kits and cymbals "feel".

So, I bought a set of Zildjian Gen16 cymbals along with a set of Pearl E-pro heads and a Yamaha DTX502 module.

Now I can practice at anytime and no one is bothered.

Years ago, I did an acoustic to electronic conversion, but these heads have a much better feel, and are easier to transition back to real heads, than the mesh heads I previously used.

My other kit is still acoustic and set up at church, but this is my new practice kit.

Here are a few pics:

I am looking for a cheap kit to use, instead of my DW's...................it just seems soooo wrong.

Hi hat cymbal seat?

what is the purpose of the hi hat cymbal seat adjustment? I've been playing for 20 years and I've never really had it explained to me. What is the purpose of adjusting it to the all the way screwed up position and the flat position? I figure I should probably at some point in time learn this part, lol.

DW Design Series Questions

Hi guys,

I recently saw a DW Design series kit in a really cool satin black finish. I am considering buying it but had some questions for those who are familiar with the series and the way it sounds...

Tone:

How do these drums sound in comparison with other DW drums, tone-wise? Are they warm in nature, or brighter?

I have an older DW kit, probably early 90's, (the badges are black and brass, this was before note stamping and before stm mounts... these have RIMS mounts, we think they are keller shells)...

I'm trying to compare what my a new DW design series kit would sound like compared with my older DW kit.

Any help appreciated, thanks!!

When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

It's tough to gauge. Often situations are offered that are zero pay but have some interesting players and could help with networking -- and then there situations that are offered that have decent pay but aren't anything you really want to do -- but there is pay so it's nice.

How do you pick and choose - OR- never do free gigs again?

17" Hi Hat Idea

I'm considering taking a 17" K Dark Medium Thin Crash and a 17" K Constantinople Thin Crash and using them as hi hats. Any thoughts on this? I know I'll get a bigger, dark tone.

"Chameleon" drum selection

Hey guys, This is my first question since being introduced to this forum.

I just got called last night to help record a cover of Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon." I'd really like some input as to what snare I should use on this recording as I have a few.

14x5 Silverstar Birch snare

14x5 Sonor D-444 (it sounds a lot like a Supra)

13x4 Pearl Steel Piccolo

14x6.5 Mapex Mars Pro Steel

I've got a good assortment of heads to choose from as well. I just want to get as close as possible to the original sound.

Good morning drummers, how are you?

Yesterday I made a new drum cover by Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. A song by Elio e le storie tese, a italian funk/fusion/pop/rock/blues/jazz band. This song is funk/hip hop

I hope like it ;-)

Have a nice day see you

bye bye

The Amazing Otamatone!

OMG - this is probably the most earth-shattering instrument to come along in a long time. Forget drumming, forget singing, forget all those other instruments I've dabbled with over the years. This is what it's all about!

(btw - don't complain to me about not being able to get these three minutes back, either! This is the best rendition of this song yet!)

Been documenting my snare drums more.

So ANDYYYYYYY has sent me on this mission! I'm going to be documenting my snare drums in more depth and have created this playlist. Today my bandleader suggested I do something like this.

china as a ride ?

has anyone used a china as a ride often? how did it work out?

its a trash ride i guess you might call it, doesnt really sound like a china if used as a ride, but not having played long i dont know how i would really use the sound ( mabie in weird punk as a trash can ride ) , but i like it!

Purchase With Tax Return

It's that time of year! Some of us are lucky enough to be receiving tax returns. If you are getting a tax return, do you plan on using it for any equipment? If so, what? And if you aren't getting a return, I'm sorry! But if you would have got one, what would you have purchased?

I think I'm going to go with a nice big dark crash! Probably an 18" K dark thin crash or a 17" k custom hybrid crash.

How fortunate we are.

Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I just got back from volunteering at the church I sometimes attend to help disburse food for needy families and Easter baskets for their kids that a lot of us donated money for. I know we love our drums and talk about what we buy and play here on DRUMMERWORLD, but wow, some of those families would've been happy to have the money one mid-range cymbal costs. Now don't get me wrong, I feel if you work for it, you deserve to be able to get those awesome hi hats, or that new snare drum. But you could see the look of despair on their faces, and it made me think once again how truly fortunate we are. I was happy when my cymbals came in a few days ago, . . . .they were happy just to get two bags of groceries.

How fortunate we are.

Animals as Leaders Physical Education Drum Cover

Hey there!

I lurk here alot and occasionally contribute to discussions. Theres a lot of very enthusiastic and talented musicians here that generally have good taste, so I thought this would be a great place to share my newest cover.

I just finished editing the video last night - weirdly enough on the one year anniversary of Joy of Motion(The album this song is off of).

Here it is! http://ift.tt/1HR9QrY

Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed learning it and recording it!

Next step on dryness scale from CS Dot

I've always exclusively been a Coated Ambassador or Coated CS Dot on all my snare heads, no muffling. I like my snares with as much tone as possible, open sounding, and loud.

But I want to experiment a little bit with a 'sharper' tone for my brass snare. What would be the next step after a CS Dot in terms of dryness? I'm a Remo guy exclusively, btw. I've seen Ambassador X heads and X14 heads as well, those seem interesting but I don't want to leap too far and choke the drums up too much.

How's a coated emperor for snare heads? Is 2 ply too much or should I stick to single ply?

Roland SPD-SX, help please

Got my Roland SPD-SX today

Listened to the stock sounds, and figured I would remove it all and start fresh with my own sounds and kits

I deleted some files from the machine, directly on the computer when connecting it

Must have made a mess, and now it won't play sounds when I trigger pads (with new sounds added).. damn

I don't have a USB stick yet, so can't do a factory reset

Could anyone be so kind to send me a copy of the Roland folder that appears in drives when you connect it to a computer?

I would really appreciate it :)

Roland SPD-SX, help please

Big maple fun :)

I just couldn't stop smiling whist recording this. I set it up & tuned it real quick, & just pressed record. The first time I hit the bass drum I was just so pleased by how it filled the room, hence the big open rock playing. Anyhow, headphones necessary to get close to what I'm hearing in the room.

A very happy Andy :)

Step one to learning ;)

This morning a friend posted on my fb page a video and he wanted me to help him learn how to do this:

http://ift.tt/1Ceg6Zx

Well played, and the video puts up the written part and it sounds pretty cool.

I couldn't help but slip him a zinger and tell him the first thing I would learn is whether or not the bride wanted to hear that crap at her wedding.

Of course, I was kidding. We both thought it was funny (I think). But now I'm practicing this lick....dang it....

This would be a cool groove to play over the Michelle Drees funk track (which is 16th-note based) eh, Andy? Talk about the clutter!

Step one to learning ;)

Direct Inguinal Hernia Surgery-drumming life after?

Hi, all!

I have a direct inguinal hernia. It doesn't hurt and surgery is optional, though the doc advised I do it while I'm younger. I play in two bands, one is like the Beatles and the other is a pretty up tempo psych rock group that has some chop heavy parts.

Can anyone give some advice with personal experience regarding a full recovery after a direct inguinal hernia surgery? I feel fairly knowledgable about generalities of what to expect and general recovery time with regards to swelling, pain, no lifting, stabbing pains, etc, but when we're you able to start drumming again? Practice pad to kit to full on rehearsal/shows? What about carrying your gear?

I'm not scared of the surgery itself, just scared of how much time off will be required. I've heard of a few cases of chronic fatigue after a surgery but it seems this is a rarity, though of course always possible with any type of surgery.

Thanks in advance for any insight. And remeber, when you rehearse next door to a mom with a three year old, you're "drumming on the brain."

Best,

My Black Beauty Likes The Stock Batter Head The Best-Where To Purchase?

I have tried several different batter heads on my snare and everything sounds good however I was not hearing exactly (or feeling) what I wanted; so as a hunch I put on the stock head that came with my Venus piccolo, the one that says Black Magic on it and low and behold it is just right. It is not an Ambassador because I have several and the weight is just a tad heavier. It could be similar to an Ambassador X but still it seems to have some uniqueness about it.

Now where I am I going to be able to buy replacement heads of the same?

Is contacting Ludwig an option? They don't seem to have a model number either. It is by no means a desperate situation however any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Zebrano Tour series snare video - the competition prize snare :)

Three different tunings, starting with low & fat (unusual for a 13" snare). Another one from the demo room. This time, the wonderful 13" x 7" Zebrano Tour series snare. Just like the kit, it's focussed & explosive with biting highs, incredible sensitivity, & ultra clear articulation.

New from NJ

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to drums but have been playing guitar and bass for 30 years. Mostly rock like guns & roses, Van halen, Alice in chains etc.

Just bought a 12/13/16/22 Yamaha Stage Custom from late 90's I'm guessing, it isn't maple or Birch but I like the deep sounding toms. Has a newer super kick ii, and all new g2 Evans on the rack/floor. It came with a 5.5x14 yam steel snare but I'm currently using a similar rockstar snare which has a nice crack like in Where Eagles Dare.

Is this "Unprofessional"

Do you find it "Unprofessional" if you show up to a rock gig to sub, you're getting paid for the night, you got all the high energy hard rocking songs memorized, you're ready to go and at the last minute -- they spring a "Ya know the 3rd song? Well, we're going to do that acoustic instead, really stripped down -- so If you can play some brushes on that one, that would be fantastic".

You know the song -- but hey, you don't have brushes because you were expecting to rock out tonight. So you didn't bring them.

[SNARE TEST] TAMA Starphonic Bubinga 14x6 made in Japan

Hi amigos,

Let me introduce you a new test of the Tama Starphonic Bubinga 14x6 snare, made in Japan.

I bought it in Paris @ La Baguetterie Shop after having tested 4 snares side by side.

I was hesitating between a Sonor Prolite, a Gretsch Broadcaster, a Yamaha Custom Hybrid and this Tama Starphonic Bubinga. I was looking for warm and woody snare and I was charmed by the Video I heard at Memphis Drumshop. This snare just got my vote!

What I can I say about my self test:

Superb sonic quality Sensitivity, nice articulation, surprising rim-shots and very organically warm sound! I'm just in love with it:)

This an high quality snare with an incredible craftsmanship job. Those 1.6mm groove hoops combined with this dual adjustable snare strainer make this snare absolutely perfect!

Spec:

100% African Bubinga wood, 8 ply

7mm shell / out 1 ply Cordia

Rounded 45° bearing edges

1.6mm Groove hoops

Dual ajustable Line drive strainer

Freedom lugs and claw hoops

Anyone used an emperor hazy for their snare?

Does the extra 2mm make much of a difference? I want a nice medium tuned rock snare. Will this help in any way?

Thanks.

Andy inspired me to demo some of my snare drums.

So Andy inspired me to create some demos of the snares I'm using lately. It's not all of them but a good representation of what makes my sound what it is. :D

They are by no means a "template" such as playing a specific routine, but rather me taking the drum where it feels good. I tried to incorporate as much dynamic as possible.

At any rate, not wanting to hijack his thread so I created my own.

PDP/pacific pedals/hardware purchase?

mercredi 25 mars 2015

Hey, I'm just getting together my first drum kit, and right now i have all the drums (bass, toms, snare+stands), so I just need some cymbals/hi-hat/stands, throne, and pedals.

Found this crazy deal on craigslist. My drums are Yamaha Stage Customs, and I want to get decently nice cymbals like New Beats or something. I'm trying to buy everything but the drums here. Are the hi-hat stand and bass pedal sufficient, or will they be a burden? Sorry for the newbie question, but I want to make sure I'm spending my money well!

How stupid is this?

So I get this little 12/14/20 sized kit and have been having a great time playing it, then when I go back to my usual 13/16/24 kit, I set it up with the drums basically the same distance from each other as on the 12/14/20 kit. This inadvertently makes the height of the entire kit about four inches up from normal.

Today I go to play it and I notice, I'm sitting as high as Ringo sat with the Beatles (which was almost standing up if you saw pictures, because he wanted to be almost as tall as the other Beatles). And everything is just uncomfortably high for me, and I tell myself, "wait a minute, I've been playing this kit pretty comfortably for the last year or so, what the heck?"

I literally had to start from scratch again: I moved everything away from the kit and put the snare drum in place at a comfortable height, and adjusted my throne downward. Then the rest of the kit came back in and everything was lowered, and spaced out a little farther. Duh! Bigger bass drum, everything moves away from me, not up. I'm an idiot. It felt like such a rookie thing to do. I almost felt like I was shrinking and needed to go down to a 22" bass drum. Man, it's embarrassing but I share it here because you all would understand.

Maybe.

How stupid is this?

Why does my right hand get so fatigued?

I'm a returning drummer after many years of absence. I'm finding when I sit down to play along to the song that I want to learn my right hand gets fatigued before the song's even over. I feel like my grip is good...stick sitting between my first and second joint of my index finger, back of palms straight up, relaxed grip, etc. I thought it was because the muscles of my right hand have not been used like this in a long time so when I'm at work - which is a lot of driving - I have a soft foam ball that I exercise my hand with a lot to help build up the muscles.

Could this be just muscle fatigue or something more? I think I also do suffer from poor circulation because at times I get tingling in my fingers and hand. Thanks for the help!
