Hi amigos,
From France a little review of the Retrosonic Mapex snare.
I bought it in Germany and tested it before at La baguetterie in Paris. I really enjoyed its versatility and its sound, very focused.
This is a Walnut 9 ply shell, with a Sharp 45 degree outside-cut bearing edges. The hoops are designed like the Vintage Safe hoops, somewhere between Die cast and triple flanged hoops. They seem to be 3mm hoops.
You can play many style of music, Pop to Rock / Rock 70. I have a multi style cover band, from Red Hot to Hendrix...
The snare has a sober design and the hardware is top quality even if it's a Taiwanese product.
Global spec :
9 ply walnut shell 8.1 mm
Satin Walnut burl finish
Bearing edge: Sharp 45 degree outside-cut
Piston Cast strainer
Tube lugs
Phosphore bronze wire
Full Remo Ambassador heads
