first off, i currently use a samson qkick mic and it's been doing the job fine for a couple of years. however, a short while ago i broke the clip so it's basically duct taped to my mic stand so i'm limited with positioning, so i figured it's time to buy a new one as it's served it's time!...
i'm no expert when it comes to micing (or tuning of the kick in all honesty) so i'm looking for some advice with a replacement. i don't want to buy cheap and cheerful mic as i gig quite regular, but on the other hand there's no point spending a fortune on a top-end mic when the rest of the gear (and my tuning) isn't up to the same standard
so the scanario is as follows:- this is for live use only, no studio work. we generally play small to medium sized bars and clubs with no more than a few hundred people maximum. i play classic rock and metal and i use a 20" mapex saturn kick with emad 2 batter and stock mapex (evans?) reso head with 4" holz. i have a small hand towel rolled up against the batter head. regarding the PA, we have a relatively basic setup:- a behringer 24 channel analogue desk (SL2442FX-PRO) with a behringer super-x pro CX2310 crossover, 3 power amps which power a couple of monitors and 3 speakers per side (for high, mid, and bottom end). that's about it. we don't use a sound engineer so i don't really want anything too fancy that requires too much fiddling about - it really needs to have a decent sound straight out of the box so we can more or less plug-n-play with just a few basic tweaks on the desk
so.... what's your recommendations?!
thanks
