So my 70s Ludwigs came with a bass drum mount, and traditionally, since I only use one rack tom, I usually put it in a snare basket and not worry about it. And on my other kits, the bass drum is undrilled for a mount anyway.
But since this kit came with a mount, I installed a brand new base plate, and found an older double tom mount from the 70s to match. Of course, these old Ludwig double tom mounts require you having a good ratchet with a 7/16" socket, but once it's set, it's set! I had forgotten how convenient this is. The L-arms are also the same size for mounting a cowbell. So I've now eliminated having to use an additional snare stand with this kit, and also eliminated the hoop cowbell mount too. The bass drum continues to sound the same regardless. This is nice - I think I lightened my trap case by 7 pounds!
I'm not sure if I want to do this to my 24" bass drum, since the rack tom may be too high. And I looked at the Atlas rail mount where you replace two of the bass drum lugs to mount the tom on it, but then the drum won't fit in the case I have for it. Oh well.
