Roland HD1 w/ TD7 Module

dimanche 10 mai 2015

I have an HD1 kit which I use to trigger samples with the MIDI out to my DAW. I'm pretty happy with it, except for the kick drum. I just can't get it to feel natural, and it's much worse when I use the hi hat as a second kick drum and try to play double bass patterns.

I have the opportunity to buy a Roland TD7 kit for $50. I don't have room in my living situation to have a full sized kit set up, but I'm wondering if it would be possible to incorporate just the TD7 module with a kick drum pad plugged into it so that I can use the kit how I am now, but just use a real kick pedal for the kick sounds (and then unplug/not bother with the weird HD1 kick).

I'm imagining the routing would go: HD1 module (with all HD1 pads plugged in)-->MIDI out-->TD7 module (with just kick pad plugged in) MIDI in-->TD7 MIDI out to trigger the samples. Will this work? Essentially, I just want to expand the HD1 to have one extra pad, and don't care to use the sounds from either module as I have my own on my computer I like using. Any advice would rule! Thanks.
