Playing over the bar line.

lundi 11 mai 2015

Hey guys, I see a lot of the young players around town that when they are taking 4's, 8's, ect..., that when they are coming out of there last bar of the form, they play over into the next bar either on anything but on one. I don't know how to do this. Is there some exercises that could help me with this.

Also, my endurance isn't very strong. Especially my feet. Is there a way to get my endurance up especially playing fast jazz tunes. I have had both of my ankles broken when I was a kid due to a car accident. This might have something to do with it, but I think more of something like I need muscle training build-up in my calves and lower leg areas to help me with this.

Back to the bar line thing, I just picked up Pete Magadini's Poly rhythm book for the musician Vol 1. Maybe this will help me get comfortable more with playing against the meter when comping in a jazz tune. Just don't feel very confident in taking chanhes when doing this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
