I'm playing some jazz bossa nova (Corcovado, Blue Bossa, etc.) and I've listened to a lot of examples. Seems there are about a million different ways to play a bossa.
I am used to the standard ones: sticks on either hats or ride (with hats clicking). Because that's still kind of loud, I'm working on some other ideas, and was hoping people might have suggestions.
For example it sounds like some jazz drummers play these kind of bossas on the snare with brushes - steady 8ths with the right hand, hat chick on 2&4, clave with the left hand brush. And some sound like maybe they're playing a shaker (which is always hard to coordinate).
Any other ideas? How do you play quiet bossa songs?
