Talking mostly about rim shots here.....
When I hear a snappy/cracky funk backbeat, i imagine a shallow-ish snare tuned up high, being hit with a thin stick (absolute max 5a)
When i hear a beefy heavy metal type backbeat i imagine a deep snare with medium tuning being hit with a tree trunkish 2b stick.
Now obviously, drum size and tuning play the bigger part here, but the more I imagine these situations in my minds eye, the more I am visualising different sticks!
Irregardless of volume, just purely in the pitch of the drum, how crucial is stick choice?
How crucial is stick choice to snare tone
